ANAHEIM, CA - April 21, 2010 - University Marelich Mechanical, Inc. (UMMI) has recently been recognized for exemplary safety practices and performance with a national 1st place Safety Excellence Award from the Mechanical Contractors Association of America (MCAA). UMMI was also recently honored by the California Association of Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors (CAL-SMACNA) with a 1st place award for its outstanding safety record. Additionally, UMMI recently received CAL-SMACNA's Tom Guilfoy Memorial Craftsmanship of the Year Award.

Overview of each of the three awards:
- The national 1st place award for 2009 safety excellence from MCAA was in the 200,000 to 400,000 hours worked category.
- The 1st place award for 2009 from CAL-SMACNA, its highest-level recognition of safety excellence, was in the 250,000 to 400,000 hours worked category.
- Craftsmanship of the Year Award, the esteemed CAL-SMACNA Tom Guilfoy Memorial Award, is presented annually for a project where attention to detail and expertise is critical and exemplifies the teamwork among sheet metal workers and contractors, and contractors and owners.
- UMMI was recognized for its work at the Veterans Home of California in West Los Angeles, a new 370,000 square foot facility
providing varying levels of care in 10 unique, interconnected residential settings. UMMI completed the installation of all HVAC systems on time, under budget and with a perfect safety record, using 3D BIM (Building Information Modeling) to greatly improve productivity and accuracy and minimize conflicts between the various construction trades.
UMMI's commitment to safety is part of a multi-tiered, integrated approach that includes a zero accident program as well as a host of supporting initiatives such as the "Be There For Life" program. This EMCOR effort is designed to educate employees and their families about the importance of safety through use of workplace posters, company newsletters, mailings, and other creative tactics intended to reach employees and their families. EMCOR also conducts regional "Target Zero" safety conferences, bringing together industry experts from its operating companies and partners to share information and successful strategies.
